In the fishing village of Begur, just north of Barcelona on Spain’s stunning Catalonian coast, Talaia Plaza EcoResort offers a nature-based luxury experience that celebrates the foods and traditions of the community. Talaia’s rooms range from lodges and suites to luxury glamping tents and bungalows, set within two acres of Mediterranean pine forest on an oceanside cliff. The hotel is committed to maintaining the surrounding native forest, protecting marine life, and supporting local fisherfolk. Guests can stroll soft-sand beaches on guided coastal nature walks, visit the Posidonia Meadows World Heritage Seagrass Preserve, and explore local markets. Back at the resort, they can also experience tranquility and wellness with yoga, pilates, meditation, and a beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub. At its Brasa i Flama Restaurant, guests can round out days dining on a seasonal menu sourced from Talaia’s on-site gardens and orchards.

Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at Talaia Plaza Eco Resort:

Native Flora Reforestation

Talaia has undertaken a years-long, property-wide restoration effort to remove invasive plant species and reintroduce native shrubs, grasses, and trees. Today, guests can see the transformation firsthand, from climbing vines cascading across the terraces to the fragrant aromas of rosemary, lavender, and other Mediterranean herbs drifting in from the surrounding hillside. By restoring the native Catalonian landscape, this initiative not only strengthens local biodiversity and ecosystem health but also creates a richer, more immersive sense of place for guests.

Committed to Inclusivity

Talaia’s Plaza Terra Viva Foundation focuses on improving the social, cultural, economic, and environmental conditions of Begur, a small town in Catalonia. Past projects include the creation of a more accessible electric boat so people with functional diversity or physical disabilities can get out on the water, and a collaboration with the Tramuntana Organization to enhance the employability of people at risk of social exclusion in the Costa Brava area.

Cultural Exchanges

As part of its commitment to cultural exchange, the resort facilitates community interactions and educational experiences for guests that foster a deeper understanding of local traditions. Catalonian artists and artisans are invited to demonstrate their crafts and sell their work, so guests may bring a small piece of their stay home. Guests can also meet local fishermen and shop their catch of the day.

All Things Organic

To lower operational impact on the local environment, Talaia has eliminated single-use plastic and employs water conservation measures. On-site local gardens and orchards help reduce food miles, and the resort’s Origen organic shop allows guests to buy and cook with food sourced from within 100 kilometers. Guests may also meet the producers themselves at local farmers’ markets to gain an understanding of regional agriculture.
