Surrounded by the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica’s cloud forest, El Silencio Lodge & Spa is committed to protecting the natural environment through both conservation and responsible operations. The lodge supports the preservation of native stingless bees and the American Cinchona Plantation treefrog, helping safeguard vulnerable species and local ecosystems. These efforts are complemented by practices including design that promotes water infiltration, the use of renewable hydroelectric energy, biodegradable alternatives to single-use materials, recycling of used cooking oil into biodiesel, and comprehensive waste management programs that reduce landfill disposal and support circularity. 

Known as the cultural heart of Costa Rica, Sarchí is renowned for its vibrant tradition of hand-painted oxcarts, one of the country's most iconic artistic expressions. El Silencio Lodge & Spa honors this living heritage through hands-on painting workshops, where guests can learn traditional techniques and create their own colorful keepsake. Cultural experiences throughout the region, including excursions to Bajos del Toro, further connect visitors with local traditions through authentic activities such as preparing fresh tortillas alongside community members.

El Silencio Lodge & Spa actively invests in the wellbeing of the surrounding community through a range of environmental, educational, and infrastructure initiatives. The lodge helps maintain green spaces and provides support for projects such as a greenhouse and educational programming at nearby Juan Castro Blanco National Park. In neighboring communities, including Bajos del Toro, contributions have helped fund school infrastructure improvements, cafeteria programs, and student transportation. Through ongoing collaboration with local development associations and the Public Force of Costa Rica, the lodge also supports rural road improvements and other shared community assets that enhance residents' quality of life.

El Silencio Lodge & Spa contributes to the economic vitality of the region by sourcing goods and services from neighboring communities such as Bajos del Toro and Zarcero. Beyond supporting local businesses, the lodge provides stable employment opportunities for approximately 90 team members, offering fair wages and dependable income. To further promote financial wellbeing, employees have access to a voluntary solidarity association that encourages savings and long-term financial security, as well as financial education workshops designed to strengthen money management skills and economic resilience.
