Τhe Aristi Farm Cooking Workshop

In the Zagori region of northern Greece, a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site, Aristi invites guests to experience the natural beauty of the Greek mountains and the area’s traditional lifestyle. Its rooms, suites, and villas are spread across eight stone buildings, constructed using traditional techniques and the same reliable local materials that have been used for centuries past, such as limestone, slate, and wood. Guests at Aristi are surrounded by ancient villages and Byzantine monasteries, linked by stone bridges that date back to the Byzantine Empire. Nearby, they can explore Vikos-Aoös National Park, with its winding footpaths, pristine rivers, and hiking trails that run through spectacular Vikos Gorge, dubbed the Grand Canyon of Greece. Combined, these elements deliver an unforgettable Mediterranean getaway where spectacular nature and vibrant culture come together seamlessly.

Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at Aristi Mountain Resort:

Architectural Tradition

By using traditional building techniques and local materials, Aristi is indistinguishable from surrounding mountain villages and an unobtrusive neighbor to natural draws like the Vikos Gorge, rocky Towers of Astraka, and the Voidomatis river. In addition, the resort has helped to finance the reconstruction of the traditional cobblestone pathways in the area, all constructed without the use of cement in accordance with ancient practices.

Dyed-in-the-Wool Heritage

Guests are invited to visit the village of Elafotopos to see traditional weaving demonstrations and create handmade woolen fabrics. There, they learn each stage of sheep wool craftsmanship, from washing and drying raw fleece to preparing it for weaving, felting, or knitting using time-honored techniques.

Sourcing Local Ingredients

Arisiti supports its neighbors by sourcing free-range meats, fruits and vegetables from local farms, and regional Greek wines. An on-site greenhouse and organic garden fills in any gaps in the rotating seasonal menu at Salvia restaurant. Guests can also experience a true treat: Grecian cooking classes, where they learn to prepare tzatziki, Greek salads, and Zagori pie to deepen their understanding of the country’s culinary traditions.

Geologic and Natural History

The Zagori region is very much a product of its geology, shaped by the dramatic mountains, canyons, and gorges formed over time by tectonic change and water erosion. Guests are invited to explore Aristi’s backyard, Vikos-Aoos Geopark, on guided hikes that unravel the geological heritage of the area’s mountains, Vikos Canyon, and the crystal-clear Voidomatis river.
