Daily nature excursions

With dramatic desertscapes right outside the door, courtesy of the world's oldest living desert, guests can take in some of the highest sand dunes on Earth, as well as rocky vistas and gravel plains, on foot, in vehicles and from the lodge's open-air verandas with provided Swarovski binoculars. At night, bask in the brilliance of a spectacular night sky glowing with stars bordering an officially designated International Dark Sky Reserve, while discovering rare nocturnal wildlife.

Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge:

Investing in the future

In Namibia, &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge works alongside Wild Impact, andBeyond’s longstanding community and conservation development partner, to strengthen education access across two key primary schools in the region. This work focuses on infrastructure development and nutrition, including the construction of a multipurpose centre containing a kitchen, dining hall and storeroom, with a media centre and library planned for 2026. It also supports the daily provision of meals for 715 young learners attending school, helping create a more stable foundation for learning, growth and opportunity.

Building Green

While sustainable energy initiatives are important in any setting, they have particular relevance in a desert environment of extreme heat and water scarcity. In addition to the solar powered solutions supporting all staff accommodation, solar energy meets 65% of the lodge's electricity demand, while also lowering carbon emissions significantly. Sophisticated water recycling and wastewater treatment systems not only generate 100,000 litres of reclaimed water each month, but are also enabling reuse for irrigation and farming.

Taking in the Stars

The lodge’s 31,000-plus-acre &Beyond Sossusvlei Private Desert Reserve is more than a  home to star dunes and desert-adapted wildlife. It borders Africa's only International Dark Sky Reserve and played an instrumental role in assisting the NamibRand Nature Reserve to gain its prestigious Gold Tier status - a designation that honours environments with minimal light pollution and exceptional night-sky clarity. A skylight above guest suite beds enables the luxury of in-room stargazing.
