Stargazing, Campfire

Africa is filled with safari camps and lodges, but andBeyond Serengeti Under Canvas allows guests to explore the natural wilds of the land from a rotating base. Moving five times each year, following the path of the Great Migration, this rugged camp offers the chance to stay close to the heart of the action while resting in luxurious Tented Suites. Explore Serengeti National Park as well as Olduvai Gorge and Shifting Sands or Lake Victoria, depending on where it’s currently located, or remain at camp to relax around the campfire, stargaze, or unwind on a private veranda watching for wildlife.

Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at andBeyond Serengeti Under Canvas:

The Serengeti De-snaring project

Operating as a mobile camp within Serengeti National Park, andBeyond Serengeti Under Canvas moves with the Great Migration across one of Africa’s most significant wildlife  landscapes. Together with other tourism partners, &Beyond supports the Serengeti De-snaring Programme, a community-driven conservation model implemented by the Tanzania National Parks Authority and the Frankfurt Zoological Society. Specialized teams conduct systematic bush patrols to remove wire snares set by poachers. Since its launch in 2017, the program has removed over 100 000 snares, saving thousands of animals.

Emphasis on Education

In 2014, andBeyond and Wild Impact's higher education bursary programme, the Community Leaders Education Fund, was established in Tanzania. In the years following, more than 100 bursaries have been awarded to students from their partner communities. Within the Serengeti landscape, 40 students have benefitted from bursary support over the last two years, including 25 female students. Healthcare features strongly in the chosen fields of study. The mandatory community service aspect of this programme creates a powerful circle of shared growth and leadership development.

Committing to the Community

andBeyond and Wild Impact work in partnership with community leadership to develop educational facilities within this under-resourced region. These objectives are in complete alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 'to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education'. The key projects identified to support the development of the Mbirikiri Primary School include teachers' accommodation, additional classrooms to improve learning conditions, a kitchen and dining hall and ablution facilities supporting a healthy school environment.
