Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at andBeyond Phinda Homestead:

Preserving Resources

Despite water sometimes being plentiful in the Okavango Delta, Botswana faces droughts, and other water scarcity challenges that impact wildlife and people living adjacent to the Delta. &Beyond partners with Wild Impact (formerly the Africa Foundation) to provide crucial water access infrastructure across their partner communities. Through a network of multiple boreholes paired with 10,000 litre (2,600 gallon) water tanks, they support easy accessibility to reliable water sources for surrounding communities. In addition, the camp itself runs primarily using a Tesla Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with 80% of energy consumption being powered by this battery and the rest relying on a generator.

Committing to the Community

Another layer of the collaboration with Wild Impact is the support of the organization’s Community Leaders Education Fund (CLEF). This higher education bursary program assists students in accessing funding for both academic-focused university degrees as well as vocational diplomas. While championing a majority of female students, the program has supported 8 bursaries across &Beyond's partner communities in Botswana in 2025 alone. In place of financial repayment,  the graduates all complete a period of community service, ensuring the positive impact of their tertiary education radiates through the community.

Building a Better Future

The development of Sexaxa Primary School has been a multi-phased approach, ensuring primary school learners have access to facilities that meet the Botswana Ministry of Education's standards. The project began with two classroom blocks, a kitchen, and bathrooms, with an expansion in 2020 providing another two classroom blocks for additional grade levels. Since then, the completion of a reception block, as well as more teaching and office facilities continues to elevate the learning opportunities available for students. While other exciting enhancements include infrastructure such as efficient guttering, new water tanks and a vegetable garden which support the school's ability to provide nourishment for developing young minds.
