Shangaan Village Tour

Embrace the wild splendor of South Africa with a visit to this luxurious safari camp, situated in the exclusive Ngala Private Game Reserve along an unfenced boundary of Kruger National Park. Expert guides escort guests on twice-daily game drives to spot elephants, lions, hippos, rhinos, and more in addition to special photographic safaris, nature walks, and nighttime expeditions. andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp itself overlooks the Timbavati riverbed, where wildlife comes to graze. Watch the animals from the camp swimming pool or the private veranda attached to each Tented Suite. During your stay, take advantage of a treehouse sleepout experience, a rhino research project, savory pan-African cuisine, or Shangaan village visits to experience the magic of this natural continent.

Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp:

Protecting Wildlife

The Ngala Private Game Reserve was created in the early 1990s as the result of a three-way partnership between andBeyond, the World Wildlife Fund, and South African National Parks – the first instance of a private game preserve being incorporated into the famed Kruger National Park, creating a model for conservation partnerships in South Africa. Today, andBeyond leases the land from WWF South Africa, with lease fees and conservation contributions helping to support SANParks and broader conservation initiatives.

Access to Resources

Water security continues to be an ongoing challenge for rural communities in this region, with recurring droughts escalating this scarcity. Accessing clean water poses a formidable challenge for many families as a piped water infrastructure is lacking in most households. Many educational facilities do not have a reliable water supply or sufficient storage capacity. A key focus has been the provision of boreholes and water tanks at schools and day care facilities to support daily consumption and build a reserve capacity.

Committing to the Community

In 1996, andBeyond and Wild Impact partnered to launch what has become a legacy initiative, the Community Leaders Education Fund. This higher education bursary program, which includes vocational training support, stimulates job opportunities and earning potential for college-aged students. This initiative has supported over 1 100 bursaries across andBeyond Africa since its inception. In place of financial repayment,  the students all complete a period of community service; a powerful circle of gratitude and generosity.
