Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge:

Protecting Wildlife

Ngala Private Game Reserve was established in the early1990s through a pioneering partnership between WWF South Africa, South African National Parks (SANParks) and andBeyond. It was the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Kruger National Park through a contractual park agreement, helping to create a model for conservation partnerships in South Africa. Today, andBeyond leases the land from WWF South Africa, with lease fees and conservation contributions helping to support SANParks and broader conservation initiatives.

Access to Resources

Water security continues to be an ongoing challenge for rural communities in this region, with recurring droughts escalating this scarcity. Accessing clean water poses a formidable challenge for many families as a piped water infrastructure is lacking in most households. Many educational facilities do not have a reliable water supply or sufficient storage capacity. A key focus has been the provision of boreholes and water tanks at schools and day care facilities to support daily consumption and build a reserve capacity.

Committing to the Community

Building on a legacy of supporting small-scale agriculture, the Welverdiend Food Security project is supporting long-term resilience for rural communities in this region. The reach of this donor-sponsored initiative extends beyond the three shade houses with irrigation for seedling cultivation at community hub points. It has enabled the propagation and distribution of over 42 000 seedlings to 89 food gardens at schools and day care facilities, and assisted vulnerable community members, of which 96% are female-headed households.
