Hot Air Balloon Rides. Nature Walks

Explore the wild wonder of Kenya with andBeyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp as your home base. This luxury camp offers the chance to traverse Maasai Mara National Reserve through daily game drives, night excursions, nature walks, and from above in a hot air balloon as well as unique guided experiences during the Great Migration. Back at camp, rest and recharge as warthogs feed on the grounds. Guests can enjoy all-nature spa treatments, traditional dining in an open-air boma, a rim-flow swimming pool with views of the savanna, a shop offering locally made products, children’s programs, and outings to nearby villages for a touch of authentic culture.

Impact in Action

How sustainability leadership comes to life at andBeyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp:

Replenishing Resources

Nyekweri Forest, the last remaining indigenous forest in Kenya’s Trans-Mara District, is a vital water catchment area and provides refuge for wildlife like the endangered giant ground pangolin. Elephants take sanctuary in the forest to give birth. Together with Wild Impact, partner communities and local stakeholders, andBeyond is helping protect and restore this biodiverse forest. Through a community-led conservation trust, over 33 000 saplings have been cultivated, with 9 000 already planted in depleted forest areas and around local schools.

Environmental Impact

andBeyond Kenya's investment to join the Kenya power grid has ensured a substantial reduction in carbon emissions at both Masai Mara lodges as 67% of the grid's power is generated from renewable / clean energy sources. In addition, 76 000 plastic water bottles per year have been eliminated through an on-site bottling system. An extensive solar grid-tie system supports solar power during the day, with electricity drawn from the Kenya grid system overnight, providing 33% renewable energy across both Bateleur and Kichwa Tembo Camps.

Committing to the Community

Saparingo Primary School, established in 2005 by the community, is the sole primary education institution serving rural communities neighboring the Masai Mara Conservancy. Over the past eight years, in partnership with andBeyond, Wild Impact, community, government and regional stakeholders, the school has expanded to include 10 classrooms, 10 ablution facilities, staff housing, dormitories, a kitchen, dining hall and administration block. These developments have enabled the school to meet the Kenyan Ministry of Education's standards for primary education facilities.
